Peter Christen Asbjørnsen & Jørgen Engebretsen Moe were a teacher and minister, friends from adolescence and both passionate about folk tales. They collected oral folk tales from rural Norwegians in the mid 19th century and rewrote them in a poetic style that has made them recognised both in their native Norway and worldwide as much-loved storytellers.
